What makes you hopeful about the future?
Prompt snagged from: TCMC
First off, Paula Abdul is 63. She was one of the openers at a concert I went to last year, and let me tell you, she looked fucking amazing. That gives me hope.
I’m not always optimistic about the world because of the bullshit going on these days. But that’s not to say that I don’t have hope for the future. We’re not completely cooked, after all, we didn’t survive a global pandemic for nothing.
I see more people openly talking about mental health—taking therapy seriously, setting boundaries, choosing healthier choices, and taking inventory of their lives. This matters.
I see people organizing around climate justice, pushing for innovation in clean energy, food security, evolving technological advancement, activism and communities showing resilience in the face of adversity.
I can read someone’s blog in Arabic or French with the tap of a button to translate the words. I can watch a stranger’s morning routine in Tokyo, learn a recipe from Indonesia, or DM someone in Paris who shares the same obscure music taste.
Sometimes, it’s the little things that keep me going:
- a patient choosing sobriety
- a local bookstore still open
- strangers fundraising for someone they’ve never met
- art that moves me
- people fighting for something better, even when it’s easier not to
