Currently listening to: Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before – The Smiths
I was detained, I was restrained
And broke my spleen
And broke my knee
And then he really laced into me
Friday night in Out-patients
Who said I’d lied to her?
Oh, who said I’d lied? Because I never, I never
Who said I’d lied? Because I never
And so I drank one
It became four
And when I fell on the floor I drank more
Is this a joke?
I don’t know how I feel about The Smiths reuniting with Anthony Kiedis as the lead vocalist. Like… really? I’m all for musical exploration, but this feels sacrilege. Morrissey’s voice—love him or hate him—is iconic. It’s haunting, moody, and undeniably The Smiths. You can’t just swap singers/voices and expect the songs to hit the same.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They’ve got their own unique sound that is rooted in SoCal funk-rock energy, not existential gloom and lyrical melancholy.
And now there’s talk about the band having a “funky California twist”? Like… why? Not everything needs a reboot. Sometimes it’s okay to let something legendary stay legendary.
UPDATE: It’s actually a hoax… talk about painting a vulgar picture.
