Met up with The Veteran for brunch. He wanted me to meet his girlfriend, who also happens to be a hardcore BTS stan. She was sweet, but I lowkey felt like I was being interviewed by someone’s mom. “How old are you? What do you do? What do you drive? Where do you live?” I was half expecting her to ask me how much money I made. Sheesh~
I didn’t ask her any questions like how old she was or anything. The Veteran told me beforehand that she’s got three kids and she is a school advisor. He also said that she seems to be good with money and is close with her family. He loves her and for me, that’s all I needed to know.
She also asked me about my eyes. I told her they were my gray contacts. Another non-Asian noticing them. The Veteran didn’t have a clue, but then again, he’s Korean so I wasn’t expecting him to.
We went to try this Persian-Mexican fusion spot, and initially, I was skeptical at first. But the place had solid reviews and the prices were actually reasonable, so I kept an open mind. I ended up ordering the chilaquiles with verde sauce and halal beef chorizo—and it was hella good. I was so excited when the food came out that I completely forgot to snap a pic. Worth it though. It was delicious.
Afterward, we grabbed dessert. I couldn’t resist getting the injeolmi shaved ice again, my current fave. His girlfriend got mango and The Veteran got strawberry cheesecake.
When I got home, I kicked into prep mode: cleaned the house, took out the trash, got everything ready for the week ahead. Then I crashed for a solid three-hour nap. I desperately needed it.
And no, birthday celebrations still aren’t over. Apparently, the celebrations are going well into July even though my actual birthday was in May. I have friends who are on holiday since it’s summer break and between work and life, I only have so many free days, so I’m just rolling with it. Guess “The Weeknd” updates will pick back up next month.
