What is a struggle meal you actually like? (a struggle meal can be a cheap meal when finances are tight, or a low effort meal when you have no energy)

Prompt from: TCMC

There were times when I barely had two bucks to my name, mostly when I was at uni + Chicago, my parents cut me off financially because I was problematic. I knew what it was like not to have money, but at least I had friends who provided me with support. I had to make do with what I had.

  • grilled cheese sandwich
  • toast with butter and jam
  • air fry or toaster oven a slice of bread with tomato sauce and cheese on top so it has some type of semblance to a pizza
  • fried rice
  • protein shake
  • protein bar
  • instant ramen
  • the bare minimum nachos that includes chips, cheese, and hot sauce

And those go to broke meals somehow almost always become your comfort foods later in life.

I love toast. It is very tasty 😋. For a quick breakfast, it is awesome.

I can’t imagine how tough that time might have been for you. Sending hugs!

not havin’ parents support even in small situation of our lives can build so much anger. That I can definitely relate to. – my relation with dad especially is tipsy turvy and mom is okay okay…

It made me really define boundaries etc etc…but also too many grudges I hold onto even if I don’t want to…

I hear ya. It can make people be resentful that’s for sure.

I still like to make toast and then microwave cheese on it. Ah, lack of anything but ramen, ketchup, cheese, bread, and crackers. Good times, good times.

Def a good grilled cheese without the using the stove

I can relate to this line: “I knew what it was like not to have money”. There’s always kind people around us. Thank God.

    1. justrojie Avatar

      Definitely, kindness is free too

You did good with your struggle meals! I’d eat those.

For me, I used to gauge everything by Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. If I had a dollar, I could buy four boxes of KM&C. That would give me eight meals. Yep, back in the 70s, KM&C was only 25 cents per box, and the macaroni was bigger and the cheese powder better. 🙂

Damn I love Mac and cheese too

Egg and bread is filling too, as cheap as can be and quick to make. A go to food.

    1. justrojie Avatar

That is true but eggs are expensive now 😢

      1. ibarynt Avatar

For you too? Anyone could afford just a few years ago and now I wonder how the very poor survive.

        1. justrojie Avatar

Some places are selling one egg for $3us dollars

          1. ibarynt Avatar

😱 We’ll be starving at this rate.

          2. justrojie Avatar

            It’s ridiculous
