Gone are the days when the sun used to set
On my empty heart, all alone in my bed
Tossing and turning
Emotions were strong
I knew I had to hold on

I’ve been battling insomnia since I graduated from uni. Some days are better than others, but it’s a constant struggle. I’ve tried medications in the past, but they would lose effectiveness over time unless I increased the dose. Before I knew it, I had built up a tolerance that made me uneasy. I didn’t want to become dependent on them, so I made the decision to stop taking them altogether.

I’ve also practiced every sleep hygiene tip I recommend to my patients with insomnia or sleep disturbance – avoiding blue light, exercise regularly, deep breathing exercises, avoiding heavy meals, avoiding caffeine after noon, and etc.  While they help to some extent, they only seem effective when I’ve completely exhausted myself.

Most nights, I sleep anywhere between 3-5 hours, but it’s fragmented, and I often have difficulty falling back asleep once I wake up. By the weekend, my body crashes, and I’ll sleep for 12-14 hours straight, trying to make up for the week’s deprivation.

In an effort to help, a friend gifted me the NeoRhythm PEMF therapy device. It’s a non-invasive electromagnetic stimulation tool designed with medical-grade pulsed electromagnetic fields to aid with de-stressing, sleeping, meditating, focusing, and energizing. The device works by synchronizing with the brain for neurostimulation.

I downloaded the accompanying app, which allowed me to select frequencies and guided me through using the device. It was user-friendly, and initially, I saw some improvement. For about a month, my sleep noticeably improved, and I felt hopeful. But over time, its effectiveness waned, and I found myself back where I started.

I tried everything: switching between different wave settings, experimenting with placement (the front of my head, the back, around my neck, plus under my pillow), and even taking a month-long break before trying again. Unfortunately, none of these efforts restored the initial success.

I wanted to make the most of the device, especially considering its hefty price tag of $299, but in the end, it didn’t deliver the lasting relief I’d hoped for. Instead of letting it collect dust, I decided to donate it to a local charity, hoping it might be helpful for someone else.

🖐There is a completely free way to rojie when you sleep with your palm closed 🖐Close your palm and then open it several times. You will fall asleep in less than 3 days

I’ll have to give it a try! Thank you!

Rojie, I’m sorry. Nothing worse than laying there, sneaking glances at the clock and pounding your pillow as the work day draws closer 😖

You said this started after uni? Did you sleep well then? Anything you can think of that might have triggered it as you went from school into the work world?

Hope you can figure out a fix 🫤

My sleep at uni was intermittent but mostly due to going out late night or cramming for exams. Now it’s like I stay up late at night having a mental checklist of things I need to get done, replaying the day in my head, or problem solving work issues for the most part

When I used to go to the gym. I used to do cardio, such as the stair climber, or Olympical and I used to sleep like a baby. This worked for me, but everyone is different.

I do a lot of cardio on the elliptical and treadmill, maybe I should try the stair climber thingy! Thanks, Jesse!

Sure you’re welcome! The stair climber is definitely a good work out. It will have you sweating a lot. It is good to sweat.

I have insomnia too. I should put the sleep thing on my devices. 🙁 I don’t drink coffee neither. There are a lot of surprised ppl that comment when I do drink it tho. 🙂 I’m sorry that the fancy doodad didn’t work. 🙁

Sometimes over exhaustion also kills sleep isn’t it? Hopefully, something works out for you. That’s terrible.

It sucks cause I feel like I could be more sharp at work but stupid insomnia gets in the way

And you need to be on your toes, literally and figuratively.

Yah I’ve been exercising on the daily for at least 90 minutes now 😂 at least four hours before going to bed but still I’m wide awake

This is the ONE THING that upsets me. I think I have a good handle on my health, but sleep continues to evade me. I have broken sleep. I’m sorry I don’t have any advice, and I’m sorry your headgear didn’t give you long-lasting relief. 🙁

If you ever find the way to sleep through the night pls lmk!!
