Now, the party don’t start ’til I walk in
Don’t stop, make it pop, DJ, blow my speakers up
Tonight, I’ma fight ’til we see the sunlight
Tick tock on the clock, but the party don’t stop, no
TikTok… the clock is ticking. January 19th is the proposed date for its shutdown unless SCOTUS intervenes. I use TikTok regularly, so I’ll be surprised if the ban actually goes through. But I guess we’ll see.
An update on the Southern California fires: over 179,000 people have been ordered to evacuate and at least 10 people have perished in the fires. My brother and cousin’s families have evacuated. Instead of navigating the chaos of road closures and mayhem, they decided to head north. Friends have been sending me heartbreaking photos of their once-beautiful homes reduced to ash. It’s devastating to see. Le sigh.
To make matters worse, arsonists have been found responsible for starting some of the fires, and looters are targeting homes even as they burn. I have no words—just an overwhelming sense of anger. These motherfuckers will undoubtedly have a special place in hell. Until then, life goes on, and I’m expected to keep working despite being severely short-staffed.
The winds have calmed somewhat, but they’re still present, adding to the anxiety of not knowing when these fires will end or where they’ll spread next.
I’ve prepared for the worst. I bought fireproof envelopes and a fireproof attaché case to safeguard essential documents. I also have a backpack packed and ready to go. Inside are my birth certificate, Social Security card, passports, insurance information, car and home titles, medical and vaccination records, daily vitamins, contact lenses, glasses, N95 masks, undergarments, socks, a blanket, a notepad and pen, cell phone chargers, jewelry, my violin, protein bars, bottled water, a first aid kit, a flashlight, feminine hygiene products, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and a couple of scrubs for work. My handbag carries my ID, cards, and cash.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and concern.
Love you all.
XOXO.
