cognitive impact

Currently listening to: Fade Into You – Mazzy Star

Fade into you
I think it’s strange you never knew
A stranger’s light comes on slowly
A stranger’s heart without a home
You put your hands into your head
And then smiles cover your heart

Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?

I do both.  Historians tell me that history tends to repeat itself.  Forensic psychologists tell me that criminals relapse because they fall back into the same criminogenic behaviors.  My brother tells his dog daily, “Let’s make smart decisions today.”

Past experiences can influence how I make decisions and act in the present and the consequences of my past decisions can impact my future opportunities and outcomes.  This is all done consciously…or subconsciously.  One is not without the other.

I could be a prisoner of my past but I choose not to.  I would rather much reflect and move on.  I don’t forget but instead I try to live and learn…do my best.  That’s all I can do.

So true, the past affects not only the present but the future as well. Don’t make the same mistakes over and over (if we can help it!) lol 😆

Your brother is smart! I look back on my past – not to reflect or feel sorry for myself – but to find nuggets to use in my writing. I listened to someone today say that we all have interesting stores to tell … and other than trauma, everything is usually funny … eventually. Live and learn – do your best: words to live by Rojie!
