shut up, sit down, and read

kids say the darndest things

Currently listening to: Smells Like Teen Spirit – Malia J

I first heard this version of this song whilst watching Black Widow and fell in love with it.

With the lights out, it’s less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us

When I was a child, I had this grandiose notion that my parents were going to buy me the latest and greatest toys.  When Christmas morning came, I was disenchanted and tears would begin swell up as I opened my presents from “Santa”.  Pencils, pens, tube socks, and underwear.  We were told that toys would clutter the house and it has no significant benefit towards our education.  I don’t know why I was hopeful that next year would be different because when it was Christmas morning the following year, it was déjà vecu all over again.  From pre-kindergarten till I was in the twelfth grade, this went on and on.

You can only imagine how popular I was when winter break finished.  While everyone went to school drippy and being all sigma, there I was with my school supplies and zero rizz.  The other students would ask what I got for Christmas and I would ignore them because I didn’t know how to answer their question without being embarrassed or heartbroken.

Anyway, I digress.  I may have to rethink about adopting letters for the USPS Santa because damn.  They must think I’m Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos.  I can do the Robolox gift cards, remote control cars, plushies, and headphones, no problem. But then when they’re asking for a mac pro laptop, vr’s, lizard (lol) and PS5…I don’t think I can do all that.

There are teens asking for a car, e-bikes, giftcards, iPhones, and more. At this point, I’m thinking, “Hey, they gotta shoot their shot because maybe there is someone out there who can do all that for them?”

I’m uncertain if I can pick a few from the lists or if I’m expected to grant them all?  I’d seriously hate to disappoint them because I know what it’s like to have your heart set on something and not get it.  I’ll have to reach out and query about this matter with the USPS.

🤗😂😍Oh, the child loves to have fun, and the parents ignore it. Where is the balance? Forget it and buy a lot of toys now and be happy with them.

I wish they would have 😆 at least with my pencils and pens it gave me time to write and draw

    Santa is real.

Kids in my country seem to resort to gambling for the lack of better way to get those items.

I don’t think I read english very well. Have you recently graduated from high school? I thought you were my age. I’m already 35, I’m over the hill. Back when I was in high school, we didn’t have words like ‘rizz’ or even ‘sigma’. I hardly remember high school back in 2007. I got expelled from high school in 2007 because of the severity of my mental health issues.

    1. justrojie Avatar

Ahh I’m sorry you were expelled. I didn’t recently graduate from hs but those are now every day words in the U.S. 😆

Ok cool. Thank you for your kind reply

Wow those are heavy items for gifts. Are they really deprived or trying to keep up.
Hamleys used to do something here where children write letters Santa. My son never received anything 🤣. Not sure where those letters go to, the trash I presume 🤔.

    1. justrojie Avatar

Dang idk these are supposed to be children and families in need 😆 but it doesn’t hurt to dream

      1. ibarynt Avatar

Ahhh, then the laptop could be a necessity… I think you need all the best wishes getting all these gifts 😅. What you are doing is such a wonderful gesture and blessing 🤗🤗

Sometimes schools will rent it to the kids but it’s probably nice to have your own

          1. ibarynt Avatar

Huh, your schools do that? We have only wishes then.

          2. justrojie Avatar

Yeah!! I rented a Google chrome from school for free 😂 cause my laptop died and I had homework due

          3. ibarynt Avatar

Your schools are way way better than ours, miles ahead. We cannot think that way because education is a money making machine here.

I love this version of Smells Like Teen Spirit—that indie, dark, and depressing vibe really hits home (definitely not something most people would say 🤣😂).
As for Christmas, I can totally relate. Growing up, I usually got clothes or things I needed, and just one toy, so I had to make it count. Most of the time, it was something Star Wars or Star Trek related: action figures, the X-Wing Starfighter, Millennium Falcon, or my all-time favorite, the Landspeeder toy model. That’s still my favorite toy to this day.

It’s funny because my wife spoils our boys and has done so since they were little, spending $100-$300 on each of them every Christmas. The tree is always filled with presents, and honestly, it overwhelms me because that’s not how I grew up. It’s not jealousy, I want the best for them, but I can’t help but wonder, why so much? Most of it ends up forgotten in a few months, either in the shed or at a garage sale.
Oh well. Sorry for venting on your post 😂🤣, but this really hit home for me.

Have a Wonderful, Safe, Warm (ugh 🥶🥶- is freezing out today) and Blessed Day.

Yesss I love this rendition as well because of the same reason! No disrespect to Kurt cobain rip. I wondered what kids did with all their toys afterward. So maybe I wasn’t missing out??

They make a list and check it twice. They’re gonna find out…

Reminds me of the Charlie Brown Christmas special… updated for inflation. Sally, dictating her letter to Santa: “How about 10s and 20s?” 😂

    1. justrojie Avatar

      😂 exactly!

What in the actual- I used to ask for those light-up shoes, or sparkly stationery. An I-Phone? An X-Box? Uf.

    1. justrojie Avatar

      😆 yuuuup big dreaming
