Originally, I was going to go home the night before but my friend begged me to stay another night. Her dad was going to undergo treatment for his cancer and her time would be severely limited in the future. How could I say no? Especially when she offered to pay for my hotel room?
I quickly called the airline and car rental to make the date changes for return. We secured reservations for brunch the next day. She was ecstatic that we would be able to enjoy another day together.
Although it’s not located in Napa proper, it’s still in the Napa Valley in Rutherford. Auberge Du Soleil has 17 consecutive Michelin Star awards (1 star). Nothing beats the view from the hotel resort.
The three of us had the three course brunch there for the first time.
I started with the Auberge Rosé and coffee. My body doesn’t know if it wants to be relaxed or alert. The bread looked so good but I didn’t want to waste calories on this because I knew that my meal was going to be a caloric bomb to my stomach. My friend, Five Star, said that the bread was top tier. I hated her so much for saying that because I love me some bread and salted butter.
Next up was the potato gnocchi with wild mushrooms, pea shoots, and Parmiagiano-Reggiano. For sustenance, I ordered the Cabernet braised short rib with celery root, grilled radicchio, baby carrots, and brown butter red wine sauce. I loved braised short rib.
For dessert I got the malted Valrhona “Bahibe” milk chocolate mousse that had banana cake, cacao fruit, peanut cremeux, and fried banana ice cream. I could have done without the dessert but it did look pretty. We all ordered different desserts. I had another cup of coffee because all the carbs and fat was taking me to sleepy town.
