When I had my previous blog (which was a stand alone site not affiliated with WP or anything), I thought that transparency and freedom of speech were important. These were things that I valued as an American. So I went off spewing all sorts of shit left and right about everything and anyone. You name it, I wrote it.
Little did I realize that it would come with consequences and a heavy price. It attracted a shit ton of unpleasant people. Stalkers. Hackers. Malicious women. Angry men in particular.
It was cyber bullying at its best. Initially, I let everyone write freely in the comments but when people began to write about wanting to assault me or flood the comment section with hateful messages, I had to moderate the comments. I didn’t want to but I had to. Reading some of the things that people wanted to do to me, my friends, and family were rather frightening. They would even incite arguments amongst others who were commenting.
It was a never-ending blackhole of negativity. The wild wild West of haterade. Blocking IP addresses didn’t work either because people would use a VPN or proxy server . The only thing I could do to protect myself was to mod the offensive comments and hope they would get bored and leave me alone.
