I’m passionate about healthcare, it’s one of the things I excel at and can get behind. I feel accomplished in my field and yet I want to keep learning more.
As much as I love my job, I can’t wait to retire. The goal is to retire when I turn 55. It’s still a long time till then but somehow time seems to be moving faster as I get older. I’ve got other things that I want to pursue in my life. My friends tell me that they can’t see me not working and that I’ll be bored, but I think I can prove them wrong.
People romanticize that working hard will get them further in their career but my experience in climbing up the corporate ladder has been anything but. Doing a great job means more work getting dumped on you for the same amount of pay. It’s about who you know and being discreet, especially what happens behind closed doors and when shit hits the fan. Early on, I’ve learned to network (even though I hate socializing at work), reading the room, knowing when to say things, and how to deliver the message.
I also set small SMART goals every week. This helps bring momentum and gives me focus. I rely on this because work can get intense and wild and I can’t afford to get sidetracked.
