sorry, but not sorry

What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?

Bitch, I do the money dance, I just made a hundred bandsWhen the store says “Sign for it, ” I’ma leave my autograph

My parents had an arranged marriage.  They were brought together not by a spontaneous spark, but through a careful orchestration by their families, guided by compatibility in social status, religious beliefs, and values.  This would strengthen their economic stability and maintain social order while honoring their sense of duty and commitment to the families.

Despite the presence of a romantic courtship, they developed a stable and respectable partnership over the years.  It definitely wasn’t giving K-drama vibes.

When I asked my mom, “What about love?”  She responded that their kind of love was more about companionship, being supportive and able to navigate difficult times together – such as immigrating to a new country, and having mutual respect rather than passionate love.   Their love grew over years and evolved over time.

Fuck that.
