I’d like to preface that the show was inspired by real-life events but it was not all factual.
As a fan of the Bridgerton series, I was beyond excited for Queen Charlotte, and it did not disappoint. The cast was phenomenal, with Corey Mylchreest delivering an outstanding performance as King George III. His portrayal of the ‘mad king’ was nothing short of genius. He’s quite handsome, if you ask me. If you didn’t ask, that’s too bad.
The chemistry between him and India Amarteifio, who brought Queen Charlotte to life, was electrifying. Their on-screen love affair made for some of the most romantic scenes I’ve seen in a long time, rivaling even the best K-dramas. Yes, I dare say that it is the crème de la crème.
The show skillfully portrays both Queen Charlotte’s and King George’s perspectives in the first few episodes, this bi-focal storytelling enriches the experience and makes it even more enjoyable to watch. It was easy to be so invested in both characters.
While the romance is a significant highlight, Queen Charlotte delves into other crucial themes like race, mental health, autonomy, illicit affairs, and long-term partnerships. These elements add layers of depth to the storyline, making it more than just a simple love story. Le sigh.
