I was headed into work when I noticed that the signs said that the I-5 Southbound freeway was shut down. Initially, I was very agitated because who does construction on a Thursday morning? Then I found out quickly that there was a huge crash on the freeway earlier this morning and three people passed away and people had to be airlifted. All lanes going Southbound was closed so I had to find an alternate route.
Needless to say, it took me nearly four hours to get to work (I left at 0645 and got into the work at 1030) because of the backed up traffic, everyone was taking the same detour. Fuck my life. By the time I got there, I was ready for the day to end.
My coworker had a bacon Havarti sandwich and an Americano waiting for me. Honestly, they spoil me. They always anticipate my needs.
I had upcoming recertifications, audits, and panel interviews I needed to participate in person. My schedule was packed from the minute.
I was going to leave at 1530 but when I looked at Google maps, it said that it was going to take nearly two hours to get home. I texted my friend who was driving in the opposite direction and she said that she just got home after getting stuck in traffic for three hours. No thank you. I decided to stay and wait it out.
One of the upper leadership executives, also a friend, noticed that I was still there so she invited me to go have drinks and nachos after work.
The drinks kept rolling and the nachos for some reason tasted phenomenal. Before we knew it, we were each three margaritas in and we sat there talking for four hours. I think that’s what I needed, especially after the morning…the week I’ve had. I needed the down time. This is actually the most I’ve drank in years. I paced myself and drank plenty of water so I wouldn’t get sloppy drunk, yet feel euphoric for that moment. By the time it was time to go, I was lucid and sober. I didn’t want to think about the drive back home. cry
I got home and finished up my work. I’m exhausted AF.
